Many children with problems of attention grow up to be adults with problems of attention. Would you like to spend less time racking up emotional debt and more time receiving dividends from your 'feeling better' bank account? Research findings show that the complex demands of family and work can really get you down. I’ll close with my personal favorite. “There is an individual who shoots across the office to other employees, which is very disruptive to everyone.” Shoots? “Crunching ice in her cubicle while working”, this card says in a scrawl. There’s a homicide waiting to happen here. When you’re in a sea of cubicles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the unspoken rule is to indulge only your silent habits. This person is blowing out the nerves of everyone within earshot, and somebody ought to give her the word. Do so kindly at first, but strongly if necessary, since she seems to be either totally oblivious or extremely malicious.
Sometimes when I do trainings for managers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one of the exercises I have them do is write down one thing that someone does at work that drives them nuts. I thought I would share some of those things with you today.

Then there’s the person who inflicts an unwanted nickname: “He calls me “Angel”. Obtaining and measuring happiness is something that the UK government has been actively researching for a while now. It's rather curious that at this stage of our advancement, the notion of understanding and incorporating something so fundamental as happiness sounds as challenging as sending probes to Jupiter to try and fathom its nature. It just shows us how clueless we are emotionally and spiritually regardless of our technological advancement. For many people the 'big' questions are not 'what constitutes a happy life? but transient and fleeting issues, such as 'when will Cheryl Cole get back with her cheating footballer ex-husband?'. Fortunately there are people out there who have taken the big questions seriously and have researched them. Psychologists Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrell propose a very common sense conclusion which is that happiness is a function of a person understanding and meeting their emotional needs. Some of these needs are universal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as the need for security, friendship,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], love,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], status, intimacy, being stretched and challenged, and to achieving a sense of personal meaning. When these needs are met,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we are in balance. Where do we learn to do this? When we look to society for guidance and leadership, what kind of role models does society present to us to emulate? - actors, celebrities,sports people, pop and rock stars (and other dubious celebrities who seem to have no discernible talent other than a willingness to do anything to promote their fame). There is a missing 'X' factor to this formula for happiness. If we aren't clear about our own needs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then there are plenty of others who will tell us how we should live our lives and what we should aspire for.
